Steve Forbes Lands His First High School Recruit in 2020 Center Emmanuel Okpomo

Wake Forest’s Forbes solidifies his front court with 2020 center

On Tuesday night, Steve Forbes and his staff were informed that Oak Hill Academy (VA) center, Emmanuel Okpomo, has committed to their program. He is the first player out of high school to sign with Steve Forbes at Wake Forest. Okpomo chose the Deacons over the likes of USF, UConn, Houston, ETSU, Virginia Tech and VCU. He decommitted from USF back in April.

Okpomo is ranked as a three-star prospect and the 316th best player in his class by 247 sports. Originally from Nigeria, he found his way to the wildly successful Oak Hill Academy for his senior season. The three years prior he played at Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia.

At Oak Hill, Okpomo led the Warriors to a 36-3 record, while averaging 7.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game. They finished the season ranked 3rd in the country. He also led a team that boasted eight D1 players in field goal percentage and blocks for the season.

The seven-footer has a 7’6 wingspan and is a force down low, a Phenom Sports Report in 2019 stated that “he is still somewhat raw offensively, he does have good footwork in the paint and has a jump hook as his one go-to move”.

Okpomo should provide some solid depth down low, joining Tariqn Ingraham and Ody Oguama at the center position. He is the 12th player on scholarship for the Demon Deacons.
