It’s over. How can it be over already? The ACC regular season has concluded and it is almost the greatest time of the year, which is of course followed by the worst time of the year. Soon all of you favorite sports media outlets will revert back to the worst content on the planet: NFL Draft Coverage. Followed by post draft coverage. Followed by pre-season coverage. Followed by me intentionally driving at a high speed into a huge tree.
Anyways, we as a group at ACCBR wanted to put out our individual All-ACC teams followed by the collaborative teams. First, lets reveal how every voted and then we will take a look at the results.
First up, Kinchen:

No huge surprises here except maybe Nwora being on the third team.
Next up, Charlie Manolakis:

Now it gets interesting. Charlie actually has a completely different third team than Kinchen and all five guys on Charlie’s team didn’t make any list on Kinchen’s teams. That should tell you: A) how much talent is in the ACC this year and B) how difficult it is to make teams like this. I can already hear some of you guys clickity clacking on the those keyboards responding on twitter.
I saved the most egregious for last. Here are my All ACC teams for the 2018-19 season:
ACC First Team

ACC Second Team
- John Mooney-Notre Dame

ACC Third Team
- Ty Jerome-UVA
- Ky Bowman-Boston College
- Tre’ Jones-Duke

That was difficult. That last spot came down to NAW and Reed, both of which have somewhat underwhelmed during conference play. Reed was just a little bit better and had a little bit less around him so he gets the nod. I was also surprised to see I was the only one to put Fi Kabengele on the second team.
Putting John Mooney ahead of Luke Maye was also pretty easy for me. You would have thought I would have learned from being all in on Miles Bridges last season and having him underwhelm, but I did the same thing with Luke this year. While he still averaged a double double this season, he just wasn’t overly impressive. He takes bad shots, maybe shoots too many triples even though he shoots 37%. I just liked Mooney a little bit better this season.
Here is how the collaborative numbers work out. It was a pretty simply method, a first team vote gets a player 3 points, second team 2 points, third team 1 points. We aren’t splitting the atom here at ACCBR.

No real shockers, coincidentally, that is also my first team. That was not intentional and I promise I selected my teams before I looked at the Kinchen and Charlie’s teams.

Again, no real shockers and nothing to really argue. I will admit that I would like to have put Ty Jerome higher on my lists, but who do you remove? Kabengele would be the obvious one I think, but Fi has been everything for the fourth place ACC team so he stays.

There was a four way tie with five points, but I chose to put Mooney down on the third team just due to overall team success. It was just a judgement call to make things a little bit cleaner on the site.
For my individual awards they are as follows:
Coach of the Year: Roy Williams-UNC
I don’t think it is really close. Everyone knew the Heels were going to be good, I don’t know if anyone thought they were going to be this good, except for me obviously.
Charlie voted for Buzz Williams and I can see that. To lock up the fifth seed in the ACC tournament when you’re missing your senior leader and point guard for the final five weeks is incredible.
Sixth Man of Year
Fi Kabengele is the only choice. We all agreed. He is the only player in the ACC to lead his team in scoring and not start a single game all season.
Defensive Player of the Year
Zion Williamson is again, the easiest and obvious choice. 1.8 blocks, 2.2 steals, a defensive rating of 91 (that’s good). He’s just the most dominant force in college basketball.
Newcomer of the Year:
Zion. If you need an explanation, you haven’t been paying attention.
Player of the Year:
Zion. The kid is going to need a bigger mantle at home. He’ll be able to afford it in about 6 months.
