Hokies’ Clarke suspended indefinitely

By Mychal Hunter

So this fell out of the sky today.

The lack of information here is incredibly frustrating, but it likely means they are still sorting through some stuff trying to figure out what happened. Or he missed curfew and it’s not worth disclosing. Or he missed class and they don’t want to disclose it.

He didn’t get kicked off the team so I doubt it is a serious violation. I mean, he probably didn’t kill a guy with a hammer or punch an assistant coach in the face seven times. But, that is also just me speculating.

The Hokies have roughly a month before they play a big boy school. Their first three games of the season are:

  • 11/9 vs Gardner Webb
  • 11/15 vs Ball State (Charleston Classic)
  • 11/24 vs St. Francis (PA)

Now, they could potentially play Purdue in the second round of the Charleston Classic and possibly even Alabama if they both make it through. VPI definitely wants their emotional leader and best defender for those games.

The word indefinite could mean any number of things. He may only miss the Liberty exhibition this Sunday. I would like to think some more information will leak in the next 24 hours.

Clarke averaged 8.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season as one of the conferences best sixth men. Coach Buzz Williams will likely turn to P.J. Horne to pick up the slack in a very thin Hokies front court.
